It's my favorite time of the year - coat shopping time! Even though I hate cold weather and have chosen to live in Southern California so I'll never need winter gear - I have this unreasonable obsession with coats. My entire guest coat closet is full of my coats from over the years so if you come over, you have to put your coat on the sofa =) But for tots, they actually need coats, even in sunny So. Cal. What a better way to stay warm than to lavish in a fancy coat! This ruffle fleece jacket is comfortable so this is not your heavy stiff coat that won't let their arms be free. Peter Pan is my preferred collar for tots =) And what girl does not appreciate excessive ruffles? Machine washable, too! The price is just right so this is going in my shopping cart for sure! At Barneys New York for
$58.
Sometimes, something comes along that is absolutely worthy of a splurge!! For me my emotions take over and any financial savvy I do have is toast. You really cannot get more baby adorable, cool and stylish than this Burberry kilt dress with the super hip off centered buckles in charcoal tweed. This is great for layering and varying weather by wearing button up long sleeve, turtle neck or tee shirt underneath. Put on a cropped cardigan for cooler days for a Fall look that will rival her fashionista mommy (although, my girls dress better than me on most days)!! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $235.
Just when I thought there is nothing new in graphic tees, I come across Stella Blu. These bright and vibrant designs are full of personality and character to go with your lively Tot. I love the all over design and the variations in designs. You can layer these with bold color long sleeve tees underneath for even more impact, and of course added warmth. KOI for $29 and ROSES also $29 at Stella Blu Clothing.
IKKS is the greatest brand for boys. For all those moms who complain that there is nothing fun and fashionable for boys, get to know IKKS and fall in love. This velour jacket is as cool as it comes, this is what rock stars dress their tots in (I have no real proof of that but I suspect my speculation is pretty accurate). The ripped outer pocket, the zip up attached sweater and the fact that this is velour is as avant garde as you can get for little boys without being over the top. In fact, this is perfectly appropriate for the most proper occasions but is also great for everyday. It is cozy and comfy and an easy favorite for cold days. At Zandino for $150.99.
There are never enough ruffles for a little girl. While they learn what subtle means, they can still have their fun dressing up in this over the top cascading skirt with contrasting gray stitching. This is an easy pull on skirt that can be dressed up with an equally frou frou top or dressed down with her favorite tee shirt. Throw fairy wings on and it is a dress up party! Put on leggings and boots for an on trend look for Fall. At Addy's Closet for $54.
This military inspired Herringbone coat has an interior hoodie vest than can be worn together for a cool layered look or separately for versatile wear. There are actually 3 looks here, jacket by itself, jacket with the hoodie and the vest by itself. I love boys with proper coats, they just instantly dashing no matter what else it under it. Grey is the perfect Fall neutral for tots, I hate to put black on anyone under 12. This is a coat that will go a long way. At LavishKids.com for $225.20. Made in Italy.

Yes, an all over fur jacket is over the top but that's what makes it so fun. And isn't that what's appealing to your girl? They haven't learned the finer points of subtlety and if you ask me, they don't have to yet. They will have many years down the road to learn restraint. Or if you're like me and wish I didn't have restraint, then you get this for your daughter =) The ribbon sash tie really makes this dramatic and fit for a true diva. Just make sure their attitudes don't match. Surprisingly affordable, which makes it easy to justify, at Evertyhing But the Princess for $76.
I don't know why I am such a sucker and always obssessed with these fake tie shirts. I think it's because my husband refuses to wear ties (even at weddings, to my horror). But this is whimsical with the rebellious look of an unkempt loose tie, which I suppose is the opposite of what I would want in a well suited man. But its a compromise, and it'll be a perfect compromise for you and your boy as well. You both will love the Rock 'n Roll vibe on an easy to wear knit shirt. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $128 - $132 depending on size ordered.
Yes, these are for tots! ThIs is the biggest look this fall season. But you don't have to get it for the trend, get it for the utilitarian winter wear with the added bonus of making your boy the coolest on the block. You no longer have to worry about where they are stomping because these boots will withstand almost any terrain. They are perfect for winter climates of rain and snow, the thick treads on the soles ensure even footing. I love the look of the ankle strap, it might take a little longer to put on but it's so worth it! It could also be a learning opportunity for your Tot :). At Asos.com on sale for $81.
