What a better way to get ready for Back to School than this school locker storage unit? My older daughter is starting Kindergarten at elementary school so although she is still using cubbies, this is the perfect way to introduce her to using lockers next year. You can keep this in your mud room or somewhere near the front door (it has caster wheels for easy moving) so your tot can keep school things organized, like homework, backpack, jacket, and other essentials for leaving the house. That way getting ready to leave will be a cinch instead of the chaotic running around the house 5 times in search of everything. Personalization comes with the cost of the locker. At Chasing Fireflies for $99.

I saw this in Concord, MA (I'm here on vacation) at an antique shop. At first I thought it was a stool but then I noticed the sled that kind of looks like a snowboard. I guess they were more advanced than I thought back then! Except when it comes to safety, I would be a wreck watching my tots head down a snowy hill on this!! And I wonder how well it holds up during a crash. Let's hope this was only used on the bunny hill. He price is $95, a nice buy for a quant room decor.
The dry erase board does not need to be nailed to the wall or sit on an easel anymore. Paint on the Dry Erase Paint anywhere and voila! - a surface for drawing, doodling and making lists. This is of course great for the playroom and your tot's bedroom but think about the kitchen, mud room, office and yes, bathroom. You do all your best thinking there after all =) It is super easy and has minimal odor after application so it is safe to use in rooms where your tot will be. One can of paint will cover a 7' x 7' area. At Amazon for $22.28.
This is the best idea for a growth chart I have ever seen. A mirror! That's so brilliant because the only thing tots love more than measuring their height is looking at themselves. This way they can get a new prospective on their growth progress. I wish there was a technology for this mirror to take a picture of them whenever they look in it. Then when you go back to each height you can look at the picture that goes with it. If that isn't a patented idea, I don't know what is =) Legally, does this count as a claim for this idea? Tech whizzes out there, email me to workshop this, STAT! At Petit Collage for $100. Mirror is shatter proof acrylic.
Crib bumpers are out, but these Wonder Bumpers are definitely in! Instead of surrounding your crib with traditional bumpers (which not only act as a step stool for toddlers to escape, they also pose a danger for SIDS), these wrap the individual rails to protect soft heads from bumping against them. It is natural for tots to scoot themselves until their heads run up against something, it gives them a sense of security to know where their boundaries are. These Wonder Bumpers add a wonderful element of decor to your crib without hazard. There are many designs to choose from, the Blue Bird is a great vintage look with ruffles and frills fit for a real Princess. Each bumper has zippers, which are harder to pull on and off, but that's exactly the point, velcro would be way too easy for your tot to figure out. Prices vary depending on the number of rails you have, the Blue Bird 38 Pack is $179 at Go Mama Go Designs.
My 5 year old has no concept of time much less the ability to tell time. But maybe putting up a clock in her room would help. And did you know kids nowadays have no idea how to read an analog clock? I mean, like teenagers! I'm serious. This clock will get that concept ingrained in there brains. It is cute and it's made of bamboo which is a nice natural touch. Makes a great gift, it comes in a cotton pouch inside a nice box all ready for wrapping. At Hazelwood Children for $68.
This is such a cute idea! Somewhere to keep all your hairclips that also adds to the room decor. It is much better than keeping all the clips in a drawer, this way you can see which one goes best with today's outfit. But I found this on a Hong Kong website and the shipping cost is ridiculous - this is around $88 after you add in all the fees. What?? I think I can turn this into a fun craft project. All you need is a fun and cute felt topper (I would find something already made) and just add grosgrain ribbon to it. You would need to weigh down the bottom so it looks finished and add a string on top to hang it. Of course, this set comes with 3 hairclips but seriously for $88, you can get your own. Craft weekend here I come!
I visited the Savannah College of Art and Design last month and I was impressed by the the entire school. Anyone interested in studying art and design should look into this school. They have a program called the Working Class Studio where students design, manufacture and sell their designs. There is a shop in the middle of Savannah with everything from the Working Class Studio as well as a website (yay for us!). I love these whimsical puffy fabric frames - these are pretty big so if you get a few of these you will have yourself an entire room's decor taken care of. For tots, you can put posters of their favorite characters in there or their priceless artwork. The frames come with a sturdy grosgrain ribbon and four durable elastic corner tabs to hold in art. Get them at Shop SCAD for $60 each, 18" x 26" in dimension and provide a viewable area of approximately 15" x 22".
I have something similar to this (but not nearly as nice) around my coffee table and it is the perfect thing for my tots to sit on for snacks and what not. Unlike mine, these little ottomans looks great with or without tots sitting on them and they slide under your coffee table when not in use. They will look amazing sitting anywhere in your living room! The best part is the eco-chic aspect, they come flat with just the cover and you stuff them with your own recycled products like magazines, newspapers, clothes, whatever. This reduces the carbon footprint in the shipping as well as take care of what would be trash in your home. This is immediate and direct recycling! Plus, image all the fun you'll have with your tot tearing up magazines and newspapers and balling them up for the stuffing. I am crazy about this idea, beautiful Moroccan old world look that is functional, fun and environmentally sound. Zid Zid Petit Gold Owl Eco Poof at Arte Bebe for $79.
A must have for all with growing tots. You design your photo gallery but you have 100 new pictures every day. When will you really change out your pictures? These frames are ingenious and designed for parents and grandparents. They also store old photos (up to 36) so you can switch things around at will. The front of the frame opens up for the easy switch up while it is still hanging on the wall. Also can be table top. Comes in a variety of sizes and configurations. Now you can commit to that photo gallery in your hallway without waiting for the absolute most perfect pictures! The 5x7 Gallery Frame is $22.95.
