Lewa's Design Wall Decals

lewa_SwirlyTree.jpglewa_Dandelion.jpg
Swirly Tree and Bird $115; Dandelion $35

Are your kids growing out of kid's decor? Or maybe you never grew into kids decor and want another option. Lewa's designs has the most charming decals for any room in your house (although if you are not in college, I would not recommend putting these in your main living areas). These are removable decals that stick to your walls but looks like paint. You get the best of both worlds. The Dandelion is 40" and the Swirly Tree is 6 feet tall! This is pretty much the only thing you need to put in your room. They can be reused but the stickiness does wear off. I have similar decals and I bought "post it" glue for those spots that don't stick anymore. Doesn't work perfectly but well enough. Get them at Poppy Talk Handmade.

Travel Scene Wall Panel

travelwallpanel.jpg

How cool is this wall mounted tracker panel? All kids love these movable tracks and this one is like a train set except it is on the wall AND you will never lose the trains! I look for any toys that will not lose parts (you know that box of scattered toy pieces? hate that!!) but this one is even better because it does not need to be put away. It also is a colorful and fun decor to liven up bedroom or playroom. Measures 40"x33.5". At Oliebollen.com for $240.

Movie Poster Birth Announcements

boy.bmp.jpggirl.bmp.jpg

My kids are past baby announcements but these are so cute I am going to make poster sizes for their rooms. Movie buffs can give their sweeties top billing of their favorite flick. For once you can acquiesce to your husband and allow Star Wars paraphernalia in the house (I have to admit, I am a huge fan myself so there is no compromising here, I dressed my daughter as Princess Leia for Halloween). There is an endless selection to choose from, it is just so fun to look through them and see how clever some of them are. Announcement sizes start at $3.50 each (depending on quantity) and actual poster sizes start at $25. At 5 Star Baby.

Wallcandy Arts, Better than Murals

wallies%20new%20grazeland.jpg

Are you deciding on doing murals in your kid's room? I thought about this long and hard and factored in costs, re-sale of the house (it's pretty specific and chances are people will just paint right over it) and remorse. I could not commit to a theme because my kids are small and they might decide that they hate what I spent thousands of dollars getting painted on the walls. And the reality is, you don't know how it's going to look until it's up so there is a lot of risk involved here. For those who can't commit, like me, these Wallcandy art murals are so perfect and ingenious and totally fun! I got the "Grazeland" because I thought I was having a boy and truck or soccer ball themes were totally out of the question for me. Turned out I had a girl but it all worked out ok because everyone loves farm animals. My daughter absolutely loves her room full of cows, chicks, sheep and the barn (kids love barns, go figure). These stick on your walls and can peel off if you want to switch things around, or like me, move. You have total freedom with where and how you want all the elements to go. They sell borders with the same theme so you can take this throughout the room for a full effect. There is something I should mention, the second time going up, the edges started peeling up as the stickiness gave way but I got removable glue, like the kind that is on a post-it. It keeps the pieces on the wall and still allows them to be removable. There are many designs, you can do polka dots, trains, race cars and tons of other designs. There is even one that is a chalkboard! You can check out all the designs at Wallcandy Arts. The New Grazeland is $76 at Wallies and comes with all the animals, trees, silo, barn, grass and tractor. It may sound pricey for stickers but if you think about the alternatives, it is actually a bargain. And I promise, you will love these, they will make your room look fantastic! Everyone who has seen my nursery just loves them.

Skip Hop Play Spot Foam Tiles

skiphopflortiles_02.jpg

OK, this is not exactly the Persian rug you've dreamed of but you have to admit it is much better than the alternative ABC color block tiles. If you have modern decor this would go really nicely in your living room but even if you don't, like me, this is so much more pleasant to your senses. I have put away the ABC tiles from my older daughter's crawling days and I am dreading pulling them back out now that my younger one is getting ready to squirm around on the floor, so I am really excited about this. My house is already sans rugs (spills, potty training, etc have banished them to storage since my rug cleaner told me it is not advisable to have them cleaned on a monthly basis) so it will be nice to see something back on the cold bare hardwood. These Skip Hop tiles come in 3 color combos, the pink/brown shown here, a blue/gold and a bright colorful one (don't get that one). Between the blue/gold and pink/brown, it should fit your decor well enough to not make your mother cringe when she visits, or at least your house will look a little bit less like the Romper Room. It is big, 72" × 54", so you don't have to keep pulling your crawler back to the center. And unlike most foam tiles, it is actually safety rated for babies under 3 years old, even though we all use them for our babies (chewed corners, anyone?). At Giggle for $80.

Unique Storage Solutions: MacBeth Collection

ventiovaltub.jpglargelunchbox.jpg
Venti Oval Tub -14.5"W x 19"L x 9.5"H ($75) and Large Lunchbox - 10"L x 6"W x 7.5"H ($48)

Tired of the basket storage look? I am. The basket liner always shrinks in the wash and eventually I can never get it back over the edges. Also, I hate the way dust collects in the grooves. It's impossible to remove. But most importantly, I just want something different. Everyone has baskets and basket liners. MacBeth Collection creates unique storage solutions with style. The company decoupages tins shaped as ovals, squares, vintage lunchboxes, or carrying caddies. With the decor a permanent part of the outside, you never have to worry about the way it fits and keep them clean with a simple wipe.

Whether your taste is classic or modern, MacBeth has something for you. Currently, the design portfolio combines more than 200 patterns ranging from stripes to paisley to skulls with virtually every print available to match each product. You can personalize your tin with a monogram or add various icons. Don't think they are just for the kids. Get a couple small tins to organize your mommy desk. Prices range from $25-$75. Available at Her Haven Gifts.

PeekabooZ by Zoi Custom Art

peekabooz1%3D2.jpgpeekabooz3.jpgHaven’t you always wanted some fantastic way to display your budding Picasso’s creations? We always hang my daughter’s favorite pieces on her bulletin board, but eventually they all end up tucked away in a plastic bin in the attic never to be seen again until my daughter wants to show her daughter. Now, the works can be displayed for everyone to enjoy. PeekabooZ by Zoi makes magnificent masterpieces out of your little artist’s creations. Greece born Matula Zoi-Adams M.D. (yes, she is a doctor and mom as her day job) started creating collages of original kid’s artworks to display in schools. Four years ago, she donated a custom creation for a school fundraiser and the rest is history. Her hobby has become a fledgling business. Medicine allows her an outlet for her intellectual needs and art has to do with her spiritual needs. As a mother of three, Matula believes children are the best artists and understands the importance of preserving their artwork.

Matula works very closely with you to customize your canvas. One canvas can contain anywhere from 3-25 pieces of your child or children’s art. Once the designs and color selections are finalized, the art is processed and properly preserved. For a personalized collage like this, I would wait a few weeks; Matula can complete a project in 3-7 days! A 2’x4’ canvas costs $500 and a 3’x4’ canvas costs $550; however, to a mom or dad they are priceless. For more information email Matula.

Funky Little Darlings Wallpaper

birdies.jpg
Funky Little Darlings Spoke Wallpaper - "Birdies"

Funk up your playroom with Funky Little Darlings wallpaper murals. These murals are amazing. You will find the designs as entertaining as your kids. The company, based in the UK, offers eight stock wallpaper designs that can be scaled down according to your wall size. Select one of two paper finishes: luxurious fabric-backed wall covering - $204 per square meter or durable vinyl - $122 per square meter. So before you think funky just got crazy expensive, I did a few calculations and I think one square meter is equivalent to around ten square feet which is a decent amount of wall space. Don't hold me to it...I stick to fashion for a reason.

The digital technology used to reproduce the murals is so cutting edge that the company guarantees the vibrant colors for eight years. If you want to add personal touch, Designers Mandy Colliss and David Quinton will create bespoke (custom) wallpaper just for your hip tot. They visit for an on-site survey, take detailed measurements, digital photographs and sketches of the room to prepare the design. The company covers every detail and has great concern for customer service. That is more than I can say for other designers or decorators I have worked with. Funky Little Darlings is the ultimate way to turn any living or play place into an imagery wonderland. Available at Funky Little Darlings.

Go Organic from Bath to Bed

Organic food trends started a few years ago and now more mommies want everything organic for their sweetie pies. In the age when everyone is “going green”, what does this new organic craze really mean? Now, manufacturers produce a ton of organic items from clothes to bubble bath just so your baby can get the purest. Organic cotton, similar to organic fruits and veggies, is grown without the use of insecticides or pesticides. However, the benefit is two-fold: not only does your baby have the purest fibers touching his or her skin, but the production of organic cotton causes no pollution that harms the environment. Organic bath products use ingredients grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Read about a few of Tot Snob’s favorite organic products:

California Baby
CAbabybathtote.jpg
California Baby Bath Tote - $20

Not only is it organic but it is fantastic for babies with sensitive skin. The line contains no nut oils, gluten, soy, oat and dairy and no sulfates, DEA, colors, dyes, synthetic fragrances or numbing agents. So, what does it contain? The developer, a vegetarian, uses ingredients from plants and flowers. Only two animal products are used lanolin made from sheep’s wool and beeswax. Great for babies with sensitive skin or skin irritations such as eczema. Still not sold? Try the bath tote (above). I promise you will be back to buy the full-size soon. Shop the BabyCenter Earth-Friendly Boutique.

Swaddle Designs Blanket

Swaddle Designs Organics - $25

Swaddle Designs, already featured as a Tot Snob favorite for its large size and soft cotton flannel, just got better with their organic line of blankets. The blankets are just as soft and just as big, but only better because they are organic. Shop the BabyCenter Earth-Friendly Boutique.

Serena & Lily Signature Non-toxic Paints

S%26Lpaint.jpg
Serena & Lily Non-toxic, Low VOC, Low Odor Paint

Many of you know about Serena & Lily's luxurious children's bedding. Celeb moms Britney Spears (at least she has good taste in linens); Jennifer Garner, Elizabeth Vargas, and Designer Monique Lhuiller are fans. Recently the company introduced a line of non-toxic, low VOC (volatile organic compounds), and low odor paints. Their rich collection of 15 colors is one of the safest and least toxic on the market. I received samples of three paint colors sophisticated, deep Navy, delicate pale pink Shell, and vivacious berry pink Juice. Skeptical of the low odor, I felt compelled to test it out. This past weekend I painted (you should see my garage) and was surprised how little the paint did smell. While there still was a slight odor, it vanished shortly and the dried colors were vibrant. I loved the Navy so much that I am considering remodeling my son's nursery. I also liked the matte-scruabble finish that cleans easily when walls are spontaneously used as an art canvas. Often times, I find scruabble finishes still have some sheen to them, but these colors are truly matte. With all the concerns about lead and eco-friendly products, non-toxic, low VOC, and low odor is the best selection not only for your kid’s room but the entire house. I guarantee you'll find hues suitable for your living room and kitchen too. View the complete collection at Serena & Lily.

Drooz Studio Wall Hangings

droozprincess.jpg
Prima Princess Wall Hanging - $800

You spent hours agonizing over the furniture, fabrics, and paint color for the nursery. Now, the finishing touches must be equally as wonderful. Drooz Studio creates heirloom quality canvas wall hangings and name plaques for your child’s room. They even have a choice of coordinating wool rugs.

The company was started when Shelly Kennedy and her husband, living in a rented loft, couldn’t paint the wall mural they wanted in their nursery. They were motivated to create their own art and painted a piece of canvas to hang instead. Since the original art was movable, it has traveled with them for almost ten years and keeps them inspired. Just last year Drooz Studio was commissioned by GaGa Designs to help bring bling to P.Diddy’s twin daughters, D’Lila Star and Jesse James, nursery. They custom designed Prima Princess wall hangings that came with their own tiaras adorned in 100 authentic Swarovski Aurora Borealis Crystals ($800). Guess P. Diddy didn’t want to spring for the real thing.

But the Prima Princess creation is only the beginning. The collection of wall hangings and plaques is extensive! Each piece is more beautiful than the next making it impossible to select just one. However, once you decide, your canvas is designed by Shelly, lovingly hand-painted in the Studio, then signed and dated by the artist. Custom color matching is also available, but up-charges may apply. Drooz Studios will add the proper final touch to any room and leave your family with a priceless treasure. So now the nursery is complete, and you can relax until the big arrival.

Tee Pees fit for an Indian Princess

teepeeforme.jpg
Tea Party Tee Pee - $288

Sofa forts are so yesterday. Now, you don’t have to destroy the living room for your kids’ entertainment. Tee Pee for Me makes handcrafted, heirloom quality tee pees out of high quality drapery fabrics and durable PVC pipe. The finished product stands 5.5 feet tall, 5 feet wide at the base, and weighs only 9 lbs making it extremely portable. Collapse the tee pee to store it in any closet, under a bed, or just throw it in the car to head to grandmas. Even the most high maintenance princess will opt for these tee pees over the fairytale castle. There are 13 fantastic indoor fabrics ranging from Wild West to Tea Party complete with Marabou top. However, if your tee pee is headed outdoors, choose from five outdoor designs made from Sunbrella fabric. For those of you that don’t know about fabulous Sunbrella fabric, it is fade & mildew resistant, offers 98% UV protection, and cleans with a hose and bleach water. The best part is these tee pees come fully assembled. Yippee! I don’t even want to count the hours I have spent trying to decipher directions that look like hieroglyphics when putting together a new toy. And no toy is complete without the proper accessories. Customize your tee pee with a coordinating name plate, play mat, pillow, and tote bag. I know, I know the tote bag sounds a little odd, but it is sized to hold the play mat, pillow, and name plate. So, if you are like me…a little OCD when it comes to organization, this is a great way to keep it all together. Tee Pee for Me is “Made in the USA” from Atlanta, GA. Available at Tee Pee for Me.

Wall Candy Arts Chalk Dots

chalkdots.jpg

You catch your toddler drawing on the walls and instead of getting mad you encourage them to draw more. I don't know if you have heard of chalk board paint, but this is the same idea made better. I think it is great for toddlers to use their imaginations and creativity as often as possible. My daughter loves to draw or paint every chance she gets. I entertained the idea of painting a small area on the wall in our playroom with chalkboard paint, but had total commitment phobia. Where to paint? How much? Will she get sick of drawing before the paint dries? Now, I can do both. Wall Candy Arts created chalk dots that can be moved or removed at anytime without ruining the paint!! The large dots (above) are 18.5" in diameter and come in a set of four for $56. Available at Modernseed.com.
